Message from the Mayor

Dear visitors,
It is an honor to welcome you to the Benavites website, a space where we want to share with you all that makes our town a unique place: its history, traditions, monuments, and, above all, its people.
Benavites is a charming municipality, with emblematic places like the Tower of Benavites and the tranquility of our marshlands. Additionally, our festivals, such as Fallas, the Three Kings Parade, and the Patron Saint Festivities, are moments of great unity and joy that we celebrate with pride.
This portal is an invitation to discover and enjoy all that we offer. We encourage you to visit us and find out why Benavites is much more than a village: it’s an experience to live and share.
With affection,
Carlos Gil, Mayor of Benavites

Historical Overview

The earliest settlements in Benavites date back to Roman times, when the lands of the Segó Valley were part of the *ager saguntinum*. Between the 5th and 7th centuries, the territory experienced invasions by barbarian tribes. With the Muslim invasion in the 8th century, the region was renamed Morbyter, the origin of today's 'El Camp de Morvedre.' During the Reconquista, Jaime I granted the jurisdiction of Benavites to Bernat de Matoses, but it later passed to various nobles. In the 17th century, Benavites became a marquisate under the Bellvís family, remaining so until the abolition of feudalism in 1814. The municipality annexed Benicalaf in 1856, leading to disputes with neighboring towns.
